Pilot Officer Les Knight and Flight Engineer Ray Grayston struggle with the controls to navigate past the dam, pooling their physical prowess to lift the cumbersome Lancaster aircraft up and over the obstacle, overcoming the elevated terrain ahead. Witnessing a colossal explosion, they watch as the Eder Dam crumbles before them. Behind them, the second of Germany's formidable western dams is ultimately breached. Robert Taylor's remarkable artwork captures the intense moment of this historic event with striking clarity.
