Flew Spitfires from the early encounters over France, during the Battle of Britain, and throughout the remaining five years of the war. One of the great Spitfire Wing Leaders of WWII.

Bobby Oxspring flew Spitfires with 66 Sqn in the Battle of Britain based at Hawkinge and Gravesend and by autumn 1940 was an ace with nine enemy aircraft destroyed – four Heinkle 111’s, one Dornier 17, one Me110, and 3 Me109’s. Promoted to command 72 Sqn he participated in Operation TORCH, the invasion of North Africa before returning to UK to command 24 Wing, adding an Fw190 and four buzz-bombs to his tally.
